From the forest to the coast… Why not journey through the D’Entrecasteaux National Park from Pemberton to the coast on an amazing adventure through breathtaking scenery on a 35km adventure.
This south west coastline of Australia has some of the most rugged scenery along the south coast. The natural beauty of the Southern Ocean encompasses long stretches of white sandy beach as far as the eye can see. Add to this abundant bird life and the odd fisherman and this gives you a recipe of pure, pristine and untouched wilderness.
The 120.000ha of the D’Entrecasteaux National Park is protected from any possible development. Being here gives you that real feeling of…being the only one on this planet.
Adding to this fascinating wilderness are the many whales which may be seen frolicking off the coast, during there migration from July through to November.
Heading north to spawn are the large schools of Australian Salmon from March and April.
But … the real highlight of this area is kilometres inland from the coast. It is the Yeagarup Dunes. This land locked mobile dune system is the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere and one of the fastest moving. Predominant westerly winds are responsible for its movement inland at a rapid rate of 4 meters a year. Covering lakes and forest in its path it is a natural system that needs to be seen to be believed.
The coastal area of the park is accessible only with four wheel drive vehicles and requires an experienced driver. A four wheel drive tour is guaranteed to be a highlight of your holiday and is one of many nature based activities that departs daily from Pemberton.
